1 - Drivers.

On collection of the vehicle the hirer/drivers must present their drivers licence, if new style photo card then both parts must be shown. Two additional forms of identification will be required, one a photo ID e.g., passport and one a recent ID showing name and current address e.g. bank statement/utility bill.

Drivers must be aged between 25 and 70, and have held a full licence for a minimum of 2 years and be in good health. Any points/convictions on a licence will be considered on an individual basis, normally 3-6 points for speeding or traffic signal violations will incur a small charge.

If you are visiting from abroad, your licences must be in English or an International driving permit must be presented along with your national licence.

In addition to the main driver, we are able to insure two further drivers on production of acceptable licences & ID. Drivers are personally liable for all legal penalties (e.g. parking tickets) which are incurred during the period of hire.

2 - Booking.

Bookings can be made online, by phone, post or in person. A non-refundable deposit of £250 is required to secure your booking. If the hire total is less than £250, the full amount is instead required at the time of booking. The deposit must be paid within 24 hours of your booking. All major credit/debit cards and cash accepted. Confirmation of your booking will be issued by post and/or email.

There is a minimum of two nights for any booking.

The balance of the rental charge must be settled six weeks before the start of your hire. An invoice reminder will be issued for the balance owed.

On the day of the hire a security deposit of £750 must be paid. An invoice reminder will be issued for this security deposit. If your booking is at a special offer rate, full payment up front will be required to secure the special rate.

Swansway Garages Limited, trading as California Cruzin, reserves the right to cancel the booking if payment is not received six weeks prior to departure. Payment is by credit, debit card or a pounds sterling cheque. For late bookings (less than six weeks before departure) the full rental price is payable on booking. Vehicles will not be released without full payment being completed. Cheques are not acceptable for late bookings (less than 2 weeks prior to departure).

3 - Credit/Debit Cards.

Visa, MasterCard, Amex,Switch and Maestro are accepted. Credit Card payments will incur 2½% interest, Amex 5%, There is no charge for Debit Cards.

4 - Extras.

Airport to depot transfer: If this option is chosen, please leave details of the date, time and airport and a member of our team will pick you up from either Birmingham International Airport or Manchester Airport. This service is free of charge and must be specifically requested, for example by selecting the "Airport to Depot Transfer" extras option when booking online.

5 - Cancellations.

If the cancellation is more than 6 weeks prior to the collection day, your deposit will be forfeited. If your cancellation is less than 6 weeks before the collection day, your deposit will be forfeited long with any hire fees paid. We recommend you take out adequate insurance to cover unforeseen cancellation. If, on arrival to collect the Motorhome, your licence is unacceptable due to endorsements, defacement or incorrect vehicle categories, no monies will be refunded.

6 - Motorhome Collection and Return.

Collection and return cannot be made on Sundays as our centre is closed.

Collection is between 3.30pm and 6.00pm except for Saturdays. Collection on Saturdays is between 11.00am and 12.00pm.

We would like to spend at least an hour with you especially if it is your first time with a Motorhome or camper. You will be given a thorough handover of the Volkswagen California and all the operations of the vehicle, ensuring that you are comfortable with all the controls.

We will check your documentation and finalise the paperwork. We will agree any damage, if any, already present and also the inventory of equipment supplied.

Returns need to be between 8.00am and 10.00am on the day of return.

We stress the need to be punctual, as we need to prepare and service the vehicle for the next group to enjoy their holiday.

Late returns will incur fees at the rate of £50 per hour or part hour. If you will be late returning, please advise us immediately. Failure to do so may result in prosecution for driving whilst uninsured.

The fuel tank needs to be full of fuel, otherwise £20 + FUEL will be incurred.

The overall cleanliness of the vehicle should be in the same condition as from when you collected it. Failure to return the vehicle in clean condition will incur a valeting charge.

The vehicle will be checked for damage and the inventory for any shortages.

7 - Breakdowns.

All our vehicles carry full breakdown and recovery cover, in the case of breakdown or accident a 24 hour phone number is provided on the windscreen of the vehicle.

Please contact us if any problems arise.

In the case of breakdowns, which are the fault of the hirer (e.g. filling with the wrong type of fuel, running out of fuel, loss of keys or becoming bogged down), any costs incurred will be the responsibility of the hirer.

8 - Responsibilities and Liabilities.

The hirer is responsible for any traffic offences committed against the Road Traffic Act, parking fines or congestion charges whilst the vehicle is in their charge.

The hirer is responsible for daily checks to the vehicle for fluid levels, bulbs, tyre pressures, batteries etc.

The hirer is responsible for damage to tyres, windscreens, windows, interior and exterior damage to the vehicle.

The hirer is responsible for locking doors and windows when the vehicle is left unattended.

The ignition key must be removed when the vehicle is not being driven.

Swansway Garages Limited, trading as California Cruzin cannot accept any liability for replacement vehicle costs, travel, accommodation costs or consequential losses from a breakdown or accident.

Swansway Garages Limited, trading as California Cruzin, will make every effort to make sure your reserved vehicle is ready on time, but in circumstances beyond our control where the vehicle is not available and a suitable alternative is unavailable our liability will be limited to refunding the payments made.

When the vehicle is moving passengers must be seated in the designated seats wearing the seat belts provided, the gas must be turned off and any items not bolted down must be made secure.

Drinking Water. We cannot be held responsible for the cleanliness of drinking water obtained from various campsites.We do advise that you drink bottled water.

9 - Insurance.

Our vehicles have comprehensive insurance on the UK mainland for the named drivers on the hire agreement for the period of the hire, please note that this does NOT cover your personal property and you are advised to arrange holiday insurance separately.

Included mileage on trips which include travel to Europe is limited to 1000 miles. Over and above this is charged at 50p per mile.

You may take the Motorhome to Ireland or Western Europe, but we need to know in advance and you will need to have our European Insurance & Breakdown Pack - . (European cover is subject to approval by our insurers. Please ask for details)

If you are late in returning the vehicle, a penalty of £50.00 per hour or part hour will be charged, this is partly to cover extending the insurance to avoid you driving uninsured and as compensation for the inconvenience caused to delay of the vehicle being unavailable for the start of the next customers holiday.

Insurance Loading. Swansway Garages Limited, trading as California Cruzin may incur additional charges if the driver to be insured has a traffic conviction, is using a non-UK driving licence or is in an occupation which is deemed high-risk. These charges will be passed on to her hirer. Standard Excess. There is a standard excess of £750 In the event that through driver negligence, we have to make an insurance claim for any damage to either the vehicle, or third party property, the hirer will be liable for the first £750. (which is your security deposit). The hirer is fully liable for replacement or repair of windows or tyre damage.

10 - Security Deposit.

A £750 refundable deposit is payable by credit or debit card on the day of the hire (please allow two weeks if paying by cheque). For sports fixtures/music festivals the deposit rises to £1,500 This is fully refundable within three working days from the return date on the condition that the vehicle is returned at the agreed date and time, in the same condition as it was hired out to you, the interior clean including all cooking appliances and the tank full of fuel. Failure to return the vehicle in clean condition will incur a valeting charge.

The hirer should be aware that the security deposit will be used to fund any loss or damage whatsoever to equipment, fixtures and fittings, windows, tyres or negligent damage to the vehicle.

11 - Smoking.

We operate a strictly enforced no smoking policy. If you choose to ignore this policy then valeting charges will be incurred. This also means that you will lose your Security Deposit and also any cost of replacing any items damaged by or from the smell of cigarettes, pipes or cigars etc and will be charged accordingly.

12 - Animals.

Pets are only allowed in some vehicles and California Cruzin must be informed at the time of booking. If you decide to ignore this policy valeting charges will be incurred. This also means that you will lose your Security Deposit and also any cost of replacing any items damaged by or from the smell of animals.
