The California offers you complete motoring comfort. Enjoy its car-like agility and experience the superior performance of the modern TDI diesel engines with ‘Pumpe Duese’ technology, available in 130PS and 174PS variants. The California is extremely sure-footed – high body rigidity, large anti-roll bars, McPherson suspension struts and independent rear suspension combine to ensure a dynamic driving experience. Safety is paramount to Volkswagen, which is why Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), Traction Control System (TCS), Engine Braking Control (EBC), Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) not to mention driver, passenger, side and front curtain airbags all come as standard. 4MOTION®, Volkswagen’s all wheel drive system, is available with the 174PS engine.
The kitchen sink.
The California is a real home from home. Everything you need for cooking is ready and waiting: a two-burner hob, a sink with a drawer and cutlery tray underneath as well as a handy cool box. And with all the storage space in the California, there’s plenty of room for your pots, pans, dishes, and plates too. The kitchen unit of the California comes with a movable and folding worktop as standard, which is also designed for use as a table.
The interior of the new California meets even the highest expectations. All the components have been designed using innovative ideas and materials. For example, the wood-trimmed cupboard fittings are made of lightweight material to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle, whilst the corrugated inner core of the aluminium panels ensures the stability of the cupboard surfaces with curves instead of sharp edges. The fresh water and waste tanks are protected against frost and each has a capacity of 30 litres. In addition an AC converter, with a 230V socket, is conveniently located behind the ‘B’ pillar trim. This useful feature enables the brief use of electrical equipment without the trouble of connecting to the external 230V mains hook-up.
Flexibility comes as standard.
Anyone who likes to go in search of wide open spaces will feel happy in the California. The bench, which can be moved smoothly to the rear of the vehicle on rails, can be quickly converted into a bed measuring 114 x 200cm. At the touch of a button, the electrically powered roof rises to reveal the spacious upper berth. With mosquito nets to give you all the fresh air you need and a blind to separate it from the lower cabin area, you can be sure of a great night’s sleep – leaving you refreshed for the next adventure.
- The bed in the living area measures 114 x 200cm. To enlarge the luggage space, the cover can also be locked in a higher position.
